The Difference Between Responding And Reacting

We don’t think much about these two concepts, but the knowledge and the understanding of them could be the secret ingredients to living life in grace’s embrace and they can provide us with that strong foundation of balance and harmony that cannot be easily shaken by neither outer or inner challenges, which we all experience at some point.

I noticed that many of us confuse these two “concepts.”  Perhaps “concepts” is not the best word to use, they are much more than that, they are ways of living. Once implemented, they can shift our reality greatly, but first let us describe these ways of living and the difference between, so they will be better comprehended.

As humans, we have been programmed to react to the outer world. It is that primal instinct, animalistic reaction to our environment, to situations, to people. This reaction to outer circumstances is mental, emotional and even physical. In physiology, it is called the ” fight-or-flight response,” but I humbly beg to change the name slightly and say it’s more like the “fight-or-flight reaction,” because indeed it is a physiological reaction, not a response. It triggers neural reactions, secretions of various hormones and a lot more processes are beginning to take place in our body. Reacting can lead to anxiety, depression, chronic stress, weakened immune system and increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

Our body feels like it is being attacked, so it created a very intelligent defense mechanism, that has evolved as necessary and needed throughout centuries of distorted social structures. Today, we are far more advanced than we were even five years ago. We may recognize some primitive behaviour in some, but generally we have evolved and are evolving past those distorted social structures. Defense mechanisms have to evolve too, the walls have to be torn down and as with everything else, this evolution begins through our inner transformation.

On a mental level, our mind reacts to outer circumstances either with dualistic/”positive” or “negative” thoughts, leading to emotional reactions sometimes to those thoughts and perceptions, other times to  experiences and situations.

Emotionally, we react with fear, joy, disappointment, happiness, worry, irritation and so on.

Reaction served us for a long time. Now as we have evolved as a society, the mechanisms that imply reaction can be restructured, transformed into new ones that support harmonious states of being and inevitably a greater peace is to be established in our society. What’s so important to know and understand is that reaction is not natural. It is something we had to implement in our states of being to “survive,” to be able to adapt to a dualistic Earth, where fear has been prevalent for eons.

You may find a better understanding in seeing it as a software that was necessary for the computer to function, but a new one, an updated version of the software has been created and the old one needs to be replaced.

The bridge from reaction to response is being built through awareness.

mindfulness-Reaction-vs-response

Responding to inner or outer experiences implies cultivating a neutral way of seeing what is and becoming masterful and mindful enough to be able choose our response. It is not to be confused with being robotic, emotions always need to be acknowledged and felt, thoughts always need to flow. The ability to respond blossoms from self-observation. Emotions will be felt, thoughts will be thought, experiences will still be experienced, but they will not get reactions from us, we will choose our response consciously. This choice is what makes the difference between response and reaction.

We either respond with love, or react with fear. Is there one way that is better than the other? No. They are simply chosen experiences to be had. At the end of the day, we have to feel into and reflect on which way works best for us and implement it in our every moment. Common sense alone will definitely guide us towards responding with love, instead of reacting with fear, of course, but actually truly implementing it in our daily lives is the real “challenge.” This process requires dedication and persistence. It is never an overnight process and it’s very multi-faceted, but we are being pushed to change our ways, and it is time to do so.

Observe, be present with the situation at hand and choose your response. Repeat. With practice, responding instead of reacting becomes natural and instinctive and it creates a far more harmonious general life experience. That is how powerful and life-changing, these simple shifts in our consciousness can be.

A Spoken Guided Visualization Meditation: Letting Go Of Control – Surrender

” ~ Come to the edge, he said. They said, “We are afraid.” Come to the edge, He said. They came. He pushed them. And they flew! ~Guillaume Apollinaire. This happens to be one of my favourite quotations and I do my best to live by this. We can take the leap of faith in our lives by trusting that we are safe beyond measure. And to develop this trust, it is important for us to have a calm and focused mind. The best way to the other side, is through deep meditation. “

Overcome Fear & Stop Unconscious Self-Sabotaging – Guided Meditation

” This is a natural outcome of purifying and strengthening our relationship with ourselves. That is not as simple to practice as it sounds, but it is a lot more simple when you adopt a surrendering and self-embracement attitude in every moment. A deeper sense of self-mastery is required. We tend to do a lot of things unconsciously to counteract that harmonious relationship with ourselves. As in, we tend to judge, criticise, overthink, overanalyze and fill our focus with a bunch of nonsense, therefore create a mental fog through dysfunctional perceptions that distort things from how they really are.

We all do that at times, it’s alright, give forgiveness to yourself for it. I’m not saying it’s wrong or right, I am saying there are a lot better things to focus our  energy on, instead of holding onto the undesired. “

Allowing Yourself To Be Free – Choices And Opportunities

Even living under the illusion we are all being given the tools and opportunity to wake up. There are so many changes happening globally at the moment and everything is pointing to the same direction. So here is my interpretation of those changes and inner journey I would like to share with you all. It’s about facing fears and understanding why they are there , so this is what happened so far…

I’ve decided to unleash all my demons, so I can look them in the eye, one by one, I can stare at them, I can feel the pain there is inside me, just so I can heal it , just so I can try to set myself free, just so I can bare the darkness and walk right into it ,with no fear, with no doubt that the light within my heart is greater. That the light within my soul can bring love to everything I touch.

Where does this pain comes from? When will it stop? Why does it feel like it will never go away? How can I survive it? How can I stop avoiding it? How can I be free?

The current energies we are experiencing in this period are very intense, some of us who have been doing so much work on ourselves are faced with so much pain. Nevertheless, where does it come from? What is this spiritual wound? This wound that holds pain inside that we carry around or pretend is not there.

Now is the time to face the pain. We can allow ourselves to let go. To  find our inner truth , our majesty.

It does takes courage to face all the pain to understand and to unleash what we have been hiding.

Allow yourself to feel the pain, to let it out to change your reality and to see your truth.

It’s so funny because it’s very simple. It’s all about allowing. Allowing ourselves to understand we are the ones who have imprisoned ourselves. We made all the choices. Consciously or unconsciously we invested ourselves into a role. A role that proportionated us to learn, to grow, to experience life.

It’s like we decided to put ourselves under a spell. Where our inner powers are taken away from us. The purpose of this spell is truly bring ourselves back to our origin, back to our truth. Only when we are done with all the pain , with all the restrictions and constrictions we impose on ourselves; only when we decide to master ourselves as humans and spiritual beings, as masters of our destiny , only then we can chose to be what we truly are.

Are you ready for this leap ? Or are you still happy to continue punishing yourself into playing a role that is not really for you but for everyone else outside yourself?

Are you ready to start finding out who you really are? That’s what coming home is. Coming home to Self. Coming home to love.

We are now being pulled to truly see, having this inner desire to find out what we are made of. The energies in the world are calling us to embody our divinity.

?What are you made of ? Who are you?

So just allow it to happen be brave , be courageous surrender to yourself , surrender to the light within. Let go. Let live. Set yourself free.

Keep going, keep evolving, keep expanding.

5 Best Natural Remedies To Heal Insomnia

We experience insomnia when we find it difficult to fall asleep or when we can’t get enough sleep to feel refreshed in the morning, so we feel drained during the day and can’t concentrate properly. The causes of insomnia could be many: joint and muscle pain, restless legs, anxiety, fear, acid reflux, and pain from chronic disease.

With all that being said, if you have insomnia there are many natural cures, tasty foods to help you overcome that and I am going to list below. These natural remedies and foods can help tremendously on a physical level, as they relax your nervous system, however if your insomnia is caused by anxiety or fear (same thing), then it needs to be acknowledged, dealt with and overcome. There’s no hiding from it, the only way is through. There are many articles on The Power Within Us to assist you with transmuting fear, you can use the search button on the right.

Also, our mind tends to be overactive at night especially, so you have to simply observe the thoughts flowing without engaging in the chatter and but at the same time, calm the mind. Most recommended is to just relax and maybe listen to some soothing music, nature sounds and just meditate, just be. Make sure your room is not too noisy or hot or cold as that can make you restless and that the energy of the room is just perfect for you. Insomnia can be avoided easily if you take proper care of yourself and your environment, but if you’re already experiencing insomnia symptoms here are a few very practical and simple to do natural remedies.

1. Toast and raw milk – Studies have shown that drinking warm milk releases melatonin — the sleep hormone — as well as endorphins to relax you and encourage sleep. A small amount of complex carbohydrates such as whole grain toast or cereal will fill your stomach, relieving hunger pains at bedtime, and cure insomnia. Whole grains release tryptophan, a precursor to seratonin production — the calming brain chemical.

2. Two tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar mixed with 10 to 12 ounces of water relieves burning from acid reflux that may prevent sleep. Additionally, arthritis and fibromyalgia pain may lessen or disappear after alkalizing with this drink.

3. Tea – Such as chamomile tea, valerian or lemon balm. They both have calming effects and help with restlesness and anxiety. Passionflower and skullcap soothe agitated nervous systems and can help with mental chatter. At the same time, too much of these herbs can actually do the opposite, make you more agitated, anxious and irritated.

4.  Jasmine Essential Oil – Put a drop of jasmine essential oil on each wrist just before you go to bed. In studies conducted at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, researchers discovered that people who spent the night in jasmine-scented rooms slept more peacefully than people who stayed in unscented—or even lavender-scented—rooms.
Try a soothing aromatic bath before bedtime. Add 5 drops lavender oil and 3 drops ylang-ylang oil to warm bathwater and enjoy a nice soak.

5. Breathing. Inhale deeply through the nose till you feel your belly is popping out a bit and exhale through the mouth as if you are spitting fire. Conscious breathing can help tremendously in so many areas, especially relaxing our nervous system, muscles and mind as well. Repeat that simple breathing exercise for as long as you wish.
